Once she goes back to college she tells the dean she will launch a study of how the machine can calm a person down. Temple says if people are calm she gets to keep her creation and the dean agrees. During graduation Temple reads a speech in front of her peers and takes this as her going through a door of new possibilities. She gets a grant from the school to study cows. Temple goes to a nearby ranch to study the living conditions of cows. At the ranch she studies the cows as she is constantly bullied and see's the way the cows are being treated. She was forced to leave where she decided to work for a newspaper company. She rights multiple stories shaming the poor conditions the cows live in. She becomes famous because of this and uses her money to buy her way to continue to view the cows at the ranch. She develops a way for the cows to humanely and sufficiently walk through a course for them being washed and 'hugged" to calm down cows. She gets assistance to build this course and has a test run. She found the cows walked by themselves and was more efficient than other known ways at the time. Once the ranchers come to try the machine they make adjustments which causes the death of multiple cows. Once she arrives at the scene she screams at the men for their stupidity as she leaves for her aunts house for comfort. Once she arrives her uncle encourages her to get up and stand up for herself. The movie ends with Temple and her mother attending an Autism convention as Temple explains how the autistic brain works. Temple sees this as another door of possibilities opening to her. This movie is a great example of how troubled individuals may overcome their challenges to do something great with their lives. Today Temple has many seminars on Autism and her research on cows. She has written many books about both of these topics and has created safe and humane ways of nurturing cows.
